Sherando Band LogoHello Fellow Sherando High School Band Parents/Guardians!

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year and another exciting year of band at Sherando High School.

I want to take a quick moment to cover a few things about the Band Boosters and help get you ready for the upcoming band camp and marching season.

First, if you didn’t already know this, as a parent/guardian of a student in the Sherando High School Band or Color Guard, YOU are automatically a member of the SHS Band Boosters Association. This means you are welcome and encouraged to come out for events and be a part of your child’s band experience.

As Boosters, we focus on a couple of key areas to support the band program:

Assist in Band Camp – We help provide water to the kids on the field, feed lunches on the first week, fit the performers for their marching uniforms, generally support Mr. Cosner if he needs our assistance, and a bunch of other tasks that make the camp go by smoothly.

Support the Marching Band through Football and Competition Season – This includes holding props on the field during the show, making sure the equipment is where it needs to be, tailgating before the home football games (this is a meal for the band, guard, and volunteers), and chaperoning trips away from the school.

Fund raise – Fundraising is a key point to the boosters as it provides support for the program so it can afford what it needs. Just a small sampling includes: outside sectional coaches, purchasing the show performance that is used, and replacing instruments that wear out over time.

Build the Band Community at Sherando High School – The Band Boosters are a great group to be a part of and one that you will have memories of long after your student is done at Sherando. When I was a new freshman parent, it was a bit intimidating but after the first event, I already felt like I was part of the group and was welcomed as if I had always been there. This experience is waiting for you as well. Come out and be a part of this great group.

You should be receiving a newsletter once a week. This will be your main source of information on anything and everything band. It will include lots of info and a sign up volunteer links usually the week before or the week of an upcoming event such as a home game or competition, dinners, fundraisers, etc. asking for volunteers or donated items needed. So keep an eye out throughout the year.
